About Flowy

Hey, I'm Matt — I started Flowy because my wife was shedding her hair and I couldn't fix it.

We'd just moved into a new apartment. Good place, good light, everything we wanted. Within a few weeks her hair was everywhere. Floor, couch, shower drain. Not the normal amount — an alarming amount. And my skin had turned dry and itchy in a way it never had before.

We went through the usual suspects. New shampoo. Different shower gel. Better moisturiser. Nothing changed.

Then it occurred to me: we hadn't changed any products when we moved. We'd changed our water.

An old grimy showerhead

The old showerhead. It looked fine. It wasn't.

I started researching Australian tap water and came out the other side genuinely shocked. Most of us are showering in water treated with chlorine and chloramines every single day — and it's quietly stripping your skin barrier, drying out your hair, and undoing everything your products are trying to do. Nobody talks about it because there's nothing dramatic to point to. It just happens slowly, every morning, for years.

I looked for a filtered showerhead. Everything I found was either a bulky inline attachment, barely effective, or a nightmare to install. So I made one instead.

The Flowy filtered showerhead

We switched. Her hair stopped shedding. My skin settled down.

Then she got pregnant. Everyone warned us about postpartum hair loss — it's so common it's basically expected. It didn't happen. Instead, strangers started stopping her to ask what she was doing differently. Unprompted, from people who had no reason to say anything.

"Nothing had changed except the water."

That's when I knew Flowy wasn't just solving our problem.

The shower isn't the glamorous part of anyone's routine. But it's the first thing your skin and hair touch every day, and if that water is working against you, everything else you do is fighting an uphill battle. Fix the water and your $200 shampoo finally has a chance. Your moisturiser actually absorbs. You stop feeling like you're doing everything right and getting nowhere.

That's what Flowy does. Not magic — just removing the thing that was in the way.

If any of this sounds familiar, you're not broken. Your water probably just needs help.
